How a round goes
The birthday kid stands against a tree at the far end of the garden, one hand over their eyes, and counts out loud: one, two, three. Hold button 1 and you tiptoe up your lane while they count. On three they spin round and shout FREEZE!, and the edges of the screen glow red for as long as they look.
Anyone still holding the button once they are facing the room is caught: they point, say your name, and you jog back to the start line. Then they turn back to the tree and count again. The count is always three, but its speed changes every time, and sometimes the three comes quicker than the two. Now and then they glance over their shoulder in the middle of a count; a glance never catches anyone.
Scoring and winning
First to the chalk line in front of the birthday kid wins. If nobody reaches it in sixty seconds, whoever got the closest wins.
Alone you race Robo, who lets go on three like everybody else and once in a while is a beat too slow. If Robo wins, nobody does.
Tips
- Let go on three. The button is what gets you caught, not how your kid looks — a frozen wobble on one foot is safe.
- There is a moment of grace after the head comes round, longer on a Little Kids seat, where a catch also sends you back only part of the way.
